Sending out an S.O.S.

Back in the days when I edited a sports page for a daily newspaper in the U.S. of A., I’d print off the final template of pages I was responsible for each morning, give them a final, sometimes frustrated look. Convinced everything was as it should be, I was nevertheless uncertain my eyes should be the last ones to sign off on the pages. I was too close to the content, and repeated reading meant it wasn’t getting the deserved fresh look.

Enter the new set of eyes, a reporter hanging around the office needing no more than 5 minutes to confirm the pages were ready to go to the printer. Fresh eyes that hadn’t seen the copy yet, whether it came from me, my small staff of freelance writers (another story for another day!) or from the wire services.

Segueway to the present day, as I edit a blog for project management professionals which you are reading now with a fervent lust for pm knowledge. The beauty of a community-minded blog that seeks to share knowledge as much provide it is that it should be inviting and refreshing. Most blogs do that with guest writers who invigorate (or, if necessary, reinvigorate) the look and tempo of the site. Like a striker bolting off the bench and immediately belting a corker to put your team ahead, the guest blogger is a must for any self-respecting blog sharing in the marketplace of ideas.

How to Manage a Camel makes it a point to bring that marketplace to our loyal readers, providing openings for guest bloggers with a wealth of experience and know-how to disseminate it with project managers eager to improve their craft. Tomorrow, we provide a post from frequent contributor Jason Burke on the matter of breaks in the chain of project communication. We’d love to hear from other professionals in the project management community and share the knowledge and experience with the How to Manage a Camel readership.

To hook up with us as a Camel contributor, email us today. Your take on matters may provide the very fresh eyes we’re looking for.
