Help for the Unemployed Project Manager
July 13, 2009 @ How to Manage a Camel - Project Management and Recruitment from lindsayascott
When we sent out the following piece about the help that is available for project managers that are currently unemployed and currently in receipt of jobseekers allowance we received an email by return saying we were scaremongering – an interesting piece of feedback from a subscriber! The fact remains that for some people, who are currently out of work and visiting their local Job Centre Plus, there are high levels of frustration about the service they can expect to receive from the Job Centre and tensions can run high. Many Job Centres themselves are unaware of a new service specifically targetted at professionals who previously earnt more than £30K in their last job. The new service “JobSearch Support Services for Newly Unemployed Professionals” was specifically created to bring in external resources for the Job Centre Advisors so they could refer their clients to an organisation who would be better suited to help them find new opportunities.
It makes sense, how can each Job Centre Plus Advisor be a specialist in each job title that walks through their doors? How can they be expected to deliver real, targetted, individual advice when they see such a cross section of society?
The “JobSearch Support Services for Newly Unemployed Professionals” is still a relatively new service (it started in April 2009) and some Job Centre Plus’ are still unaware of it, but you, the proactive professional can request that you are referred to Arras People to receive 1-2-1 advice and practical help on finding your next project management profession
In fact, after sending out the email below (and receiving the scaremongering email!) we received over 50 referrals from the Job Centre. That’s 50 project management professionals we’re helping with practical advice on their CV, where to look for new opportunities, how to market yourself effectively, how to move industry sectors, and many other questions that people may have as they navigate the employment market.
We know it’s tough out there at the moment but we like to think we’re helping just a few people to weather the storm a little better. Here’s the original communication, please let any of your friends know about the service if you think it might be beneficial
You might need a boost a right now. After all, if you look at the amount of negative stories regarding the job market, it’s hard to imagine economic woes not hitting the project management sector, no matter how strong it seems in some areas.
There is one thing that you might not know about that can help you – the JobSearch Support Services for Newly Unemployed Professionals. Arras People are consulting with candidates referred to us by local JobCentre Plus offices throughout the UK, providing unemployed project management professionals with advice, guidance and tools to succeed in your job search. Although this service does not guarantee a job upon completion, it will put you in a better position to get the project management job you’ve been looking for.
You’d do well to contact Arras People, because we can put you back on the path to project management job satisfaction. It’s the kind of service you should expect from the UK’s leading project management recruitment consultancy.
It may give you the boost you’ve been looking for!

What is the JobSearch Support Services for Newly Unemployed Professionals?
|
| As part of the Government’s response to the economic downturn DWP has introduced a range of additional services for all customers. This includes additional help for people at risk of losing their jobs, extra support for newly unemployed customers and a wider range of support options after 6 months of unemployment.
An element of that response, the Jobsearch Support Service for Newly Unemployed Professionals, is targeted principally at professional or executive jobseekers in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) who have become unemployed after a period of long term employment. Eligible customers will have little or no experience of current job search channels but will have the confidence and motivation to seek work independently. The provision delivery model is a one-day package of focused, intensive job search support for customers. |

| You don’t have to take our word that Arras People is the place to turn to in times like these. Just ask Derek, who took part in the JobSearch Suport Service with Arras People in June 2009:
“Just a few lines to thank you for your support and professional service, in focusing me on the necessary steps to succeed as a project manager in the current jobs market. Having recently left (company name withheld) after 20 years, your input has been really constructive, both in terms of re-engineering my CV for the external jobs market and in targeting my job searches for relevant positions.
“I still have progress to make but I am more confident and decisive in my project management career development activities as a result of our sessions.” |
