So, I was surprised to see my session at this fall's DCI Enterprise Architecture conference entitled simply:
Does Enterprise IT Matter?
The intended title and abstract are:
The Barefoot Cobbler’s Child: An Enterprise Architecture for IT Governance
Does enterprise IT matter? Enterprise information technology is under increasing pressure to demonstrate value, transparency, and responsiveness. Project and security failures, escalating operational expenses and unstable production systems have combined to result in significant public criticism and executive disfavor. Disciplines such as Enterprise Architecture, IT Governance, Portfolio Management, and Service Management are evolving in response. However, the IT capability in most large organizations is still partitioned into high-walled functional silos, characterized by frictions between strategists, developers, and operations staff. Enterprise modeling and process improvement techniques have been used throughout all aspects of business, but the weakest area of their application has been enterprise IT itself. Based on the presenter's forthcoming book, enterprise modeling techniques will be used to outline an enterprise architecture for large-scale information technology itself.
